1 · What happens in an assessment
From forms to a clear answer, step by step.
ADHD starts in childhood, so a proper assessment looks at your whole life, not just this month. Here’s what that looks like at a specialist-led clinic like ours. Other routes cover the same ground, often over more visits.
Step 1 · At home
Four forms in the app. Plus two people who know you
Step 2 · By video
The clinical interview. About 90 minutes with a specialist assessor
Step 3 · In writing
Your outcome letter. Outcome letter within 10 working days
Step 1 · Before your interview
Four short forms in the app. Try them.
Your clinician reads everything before they meet you, so the interview can go deeper. Save and come back any time. Tap through a sample below.

Where ADHD Simple sits
Watch the second wait. On the NHS and Right to Choose, a fast assessment can still mean a long wait for medication. Funding for assessments is often available, but titration places are capped in many areas, so starting medication can be up to 2 years away.
3 · Shared care, in short
After a private diagnosis, shared care decides what you pay for medication.
What it is
Once a specialist has found your dose, your GP takes over prescribing and you pay NHS prescription charges. The specialist still reviews you, usually once a year.
It isn’t guaranteed
It’s voluntary. The work is often unfunded, the medication comes out of local NHS budgets, and some ICBs tell practices not to accept it from private providers. Ask your practice before you go private.
At ADHD Simple
79%
of our shared-care requests have been accepted. If yours says no, nothing changes: you stay with us.
4 · Specialist, without the wait or the cost
Specialist involvement, without the wait or the cost.
Most routes make you trade something away: a specialist, a short wait, or an affordable price. A specialist ADHD clinic with a consultant psychiatrist reviewing every diagnosis means you don’t have to.

5 · After your diagnosis
The whole journey, and what it really costs.
Watch for a cheap assessment with expensive aftercare. Many clinics price the assessment low, then charge a monthly membership and high-street medication prices for years. The assessment is the first step, not the last. Here’s every step with ADHD Simple: how long each one takes and what you pay, before you book anything.

6 · Questions to ask
Ask any provider these six. Including us.
1
“Is every cost broken out, including after diagnosis?”
Assessment, prescriber reviews, ongoing care and medication can add up. Ask for the total, not just the first price.
4
“Do you have a medication pathway?”
A psychologist can diagnose ADHD but can’t prescribe, so you may need a second assessment somewhere else.
2
“What happens if my GP won’t agree to shared care?”
Shared care is your GP’s decision, and some say no after a private diagnosis. Ask what happens to your medication, and what it costs, if yours does.
5
“Who assesses me, and how were they trained in ADHD?”
ADHD training varies a lot. Look for specific ADHD training and registration with the GMC or NMC.
3
“How long until I’m seen, and until I could start medication?”
A quick assessment means little if there’s a second wait for a prescriber. Ask about both.
6
“Will you accept a diagnosis I already have?”
Some clinics make you pay for a new assessment. Others review your existing report first.
7 · Which suits you
Three taps to your best-fit route.
How soon do you want answers?
What matters most to you?
How would you like to be seen?

5 · After your diagnosis
The whole journey, and what it really costs.
Watch for a cheap assessment with expensive aftercare. Many clinics price the assessment low, then charge a monthly membership and high-street medication prices for years. The assessment is the first step, not the last. Here’s every step with ADHD Simple: how long each one takes and what you pay, before you book anything.

Ask any provider these eight. Including us.
1
“Do I need a GP referral first?”
Getting a GP appointment and a referral can add weeks before you’re even on a list.
5
“Do you have a medication pathway?”
A psychologist can diagnose ADHD but can’t start medication, so you may need a second assessment somewhere else.
2
“How long are the waits, for the assessment and for care after it?”
A quick assessment means little if there’s a second wait to start treatment. Ask about both.
6
“Is every cost broken out up front?”
Assessment, medication reviews, extra appointments and ongoing care can add up. Ask for every price before you start.
3
“Who assesses me, and how were they trained in ADHD?”
ADHD training varies a lot between clinicians. Look for specific ADHD training and people who do it every day.
7
“Can my GP and pharmacist act on the report?”
A good report is detailed enough for other clinicians to continue your care without starting again.
4
“Is there a team behind them?”
A clinician working alone may need to refer you on for complex questions, with a new wait.
8
“Who sees my report?”
Your health information should be yours to share.
